I have a specific request for an analysis, namely whether you can analyze the “firmness” of a food product?
It concerns a jelly candy composed of water, sugar, and thickening agents. In the past, jelly mini cups (photo 1) were available in Europe; they had a very firm consistency, and during squeezing, the jelly could shoot into the throat. Because the jelly was too firm, they were deemed a choking hazard. The European additives regulation was adjusted accordingly, and they are no longer allowed for sale in the EU.
The jelly products I would like to have tested (photos 2) are in different packaging and have a much softer consistency and lesser percentage of thickener used. However, these products are still regularly withdrawn from the market due to suspected choking hazards—not based on actual product analysis, but due to the added thickening agents and being categorized similarly to the mini jelly cups.
