Design Validation Testing of Valves in Oman

Enquiry:

we are a Valve manufacturing facility in Oman and are looking for vendors who can conduct Design Validation Testing of Valves as MESC 77/300.

We have a requirement of testing for 2 valves. (valves will be free issued to FITECH).

  1. 8” x 2500# Trunnion Mounted Ball Valve, RB, Soft Seated, gear operated, Raised Face – 01 Valve
  2. 1 ½” x 2500# Floating Ball, Soft Seated – 01 Valve

The sequence as per MESC 77/300 will be 8. Bi-dir.≥-29°C<0°C>80°C≤200°C

Design Temperature of both valves are:  Minimum: -29 Deg C and Maximum: + 120 Deg C.

Do you have testing tool for torque measurement at various stages which is part of DVT.

Do you have Mechanical Cycling fixture/set up which is also part of DVT at various stages.

Requesting you for your best offer and the timeline required to successfully complete the DVT. Also please share the PTR for any previous jobs executed wherein TAT was performed at your facility.

TBC and Legionella Testing Certified Labs

TBC (Total Bacterial Count) and Legionella testing are two different types of microbiological water tests, each serving a different purpose.

1. TBC (Total Bacterial Count)

Also called:

  • Total Viable Count (TVC)
  • Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC)

Purpose:
Measures the total number of viable bacteria present in a water sample. It does not identify specific bacteria or indicate whether they are harmful.

Common uses:

  • Drinking water quality monitoring
  • Process water testing
  • Cooling towers
  • Hospital water systems
  • Food and beverage industries

Typical method:

  • Plate Count Agar (PCA) or similar media
  • Incubation at specified temperatures (commonly 22°C and/or 36–37°C) for defined periods
  • Results reported as CFU/mL (Colony Forming Units per milliliter)

Interpretation:

  • Low counts generally indicate good microbiological quality.
  • High counts may suggest poor sanitation, biofilm formation, or stagnation, but they do not necessarily indicate the presence of pathogens.

2. Legionella Testing

Purpose:
Detects and quantifies bacteria of the genus Legionella, particularly Legionella pneumophila, which can cause Legionnaires’ disease.

Common sources tested:

  • Cooling towers
  • Hot and cold water systems
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Spa pools
  • Decorative fountains

Why both tests are often performed

A water system can have:

  • Low TBC but detectable Legionella, or
  • High TBC but no Legionella.

Because of this, TBC cannot be used to confirm or rule out the presence of Legionella. For systems with a risk of aerosol generation (such as cooling towers, healthcare facilities, hotels, and large building water systems), Legionella testing should be performed separately as part of a water safety management program.

1. Total Metals – Elemental Composition (mg/kg)

Purpose: Quantify all valuable and hazardous metals present in the solid slag.

Preferred Methods:

•              Sample Preparation: Acid digestion using USEPA 3050B, 3051A, or

3052 (or an equivalent ISO method).

•              Instrumental Analysis: ICP-OES or ICP-MS.

•              Reporting Units: mg/kg (ppm).

Elements to be analyzed:

•              Valuable metals: Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni), Cobalt (Co), Manganese

(Mn), Zinc (Zn)

•              Hazardous metals: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Antimony (Sb), Arsenic

(As)

•              Matrix elements: Iron (Fe), Aluminum (Al), Silicon (Si), Calcium

(Ca), Magnesium (Mg), Chromium (Cr)

2. Bulk Matrix Composition

Purpose: Determine the oxide and mineral composition of the slag for processing and recovery assessment.

Preferred Methods:

•              X-ray Fluorescence (XRF): Full oxide composition (e.g., SiO₂,

Fe₂O₃, Al₂O₃, CaO, MgO, etc.)

•              Loss on Ignition (LOI): Determination of volatile content

3. Environmental Hazard Characterization – Leachability

Purpose: Assess the potential for metal leaching into the environment.

Preferred Methods:

•              TCLP Leaching Test: USEPA Method 1311 (or equivalent)

•              Leachate Analysis: ICP-OES or ICP-MS

•              Reporting Units: mg/L

Elements to be analyzed in the leachate:

Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Arsenic (As), Antimony (Sb), Copper (Cu), Nickel (Ni), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Cobalt (Co), Chromium (Cr), and Cadmium (Cd).

4. Reporting Requirements

Please include the following with the analytical report:

•              Certificates of Analysis (COA)

•              Detection limits for each analyte

•              Full analytical method references

•              QA/QC documentation

•              Estimated turnaround time

•              Confirmation that all methods are accredited under ISO/IEC 17025

(or an equivalent accreditation)

We would appreciate it if you could also indicate whether all of the above analyses can be performed in your laboratory. If any tests are unavailable, kindly specify which ones.
